Excessive public mourning has become a "religion for the lonely crowd that no longer subscribes to orthodox churches". Sounds fair enough to me. Reading between the lines though the proposed solution here is that more people should go to church. Personally, I think it would be better to give them a slap and tell them to "get over it".
