My name's Bob... James Bob
I saw ex-Carter USM front man Jim Bob at the Prom Bar in Bristol last night. It was the first proper night of his current UK acoustic tour. (After the "most intense experience of my life" gig he played in someone's living room in Yorkshire on Monday)
I was particularly chuffed that he played my request of Under the Thumb And Over the Moon, which I asked to hear as the misses hadn't managed to make it along and I was feeling soppy having been away for a couple of days.
As is often the case with JimBob/Carter gigs, it's the connection with the audience that makes it special. Yes, the songs are all great, and everyone sang along with all the Carter classics, but it's the banter in between that lifts an average gig into greatness. Unfortunately there wasn't as much banter as last time Jim was at the Prom (for his book reading/acoustic slot last year) but there was still that glimmer that makes you wonder if he could have hacked out a career as a stand-up if he hadn't gone down a musical path?
It was also great to see the return of the obsessive drunken fan one-man-mosh-pit from the guy who got thrown out last time. This time he wore himself out by half ten and fell asleep on the steps. Bless.
