Review – Ascoltare – Giving Set
Ascoltare - Giving Set 1 - 7" (Strange Lights)

Beautiful 7" release from Dave Henson's Ascoltare project. Good to hear him on vinyl finally. The three tracks included on this 45rpm 7" include the short but sweet Crucible Process that was included on the Wire's Wire Tapper 12 cover CD back in December. All three tracks build and evolve in a subtle yet attention grabbing way. It reminded me of an old Pink Floyd interview about recording Shine On.. that I saw years ago, when someone, possibly David Gilmore, was talking about Roger Water's amazing ability to say "now" at exactly the right moment to create a masterpiece. I think Henson has that same knack with the construction on these tracks, albeit with a completely different sound palette, this being constructed from static, squeaks, glitches and tones.
Ascoltare - Giving Set 2 – Free download (Tripel)
Four (lengthy) tracks will be available for free download in both MP3 and Flac format from the Tripel Records website to coincide with the 7" release. These tracks are perhaps a little on the long side compared to their perfectly formed cousins on the vinyl but are still every bit as arresting. They also seem to miss the fantastic sub-bass content that the Visceral Vendor album bleeds out, but as these are free you can't really complain can you? I would recommend that if you think these tracks have any promise at all you but the 7", you wont be disappointed.
Giving set is released tomorrow on Strange Lights and Tripel.
