Ashton Court Festival

I went along to the last few hours of Ashton Court Festival on Sunday.

Only saw a few acts, mostly in the Blackout Tent. War Against Sleep were interesting and towards the end very, um, groovy. The collective on afterwards started ok, but I was driven out when someone started telling the history of how drug use has affected art, through the medium of poetry. Met up with Dash in the acoustic tent and watched Angel Tech, who were very good and very funny (with songs like Like the Blood of Christ, I Get Drunk around the World, and a story of a doomed relationship in the style of Joy Division, The Jukebox Will Tear Us Apart, Again. I took some shitty photos but Dash's head was in the way. You'll see better pictures on his site soon, no doubt.

The Brass Band (name forgotten), on the main stage, provided some swing with and strange hip hop infusion. It got a lot of people jumping, but didn't really do anything for me.

Duracell (aka Lighting Bolt drummer Andrew Dymond) kicked off the Toxic Dancehall set in the Blackout Tent. Amazing drumming and brilliant videogame music, a must see if you ever get the chance. The final hour and a quarter was then taken up by the Toxic residents, Parasite, Punksi, and Uberdog, doing a tag team DJ with visuals (generally around the theme of G8=WAR) by Ana Kissed. They had some nice police vs protesters costumes too, and played the usual mix of ragga jungle, a few Mash It tracks, some grimy stuff, some metal mash ups (inc the Amon Tobin Slayer mix), Doormouse (Skelechairs), some Squarepusher (Come On My Selector), AFX, Donna Summer, Snares (Twelve), etc. Excellent end to the evening. Photos to follow.

Someone was handing out Hijack Bristol flyers, and it is a very good source of local gig news, so I'll drop a friendly link in here.

You should have bashed me in the head and told me to move! My photos are up on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/skip

I was only joking. I think it only happened once. I'll find out when I pick the photos up at lunch time. I only took a crappy disposable camera that I had lying around anyway as I wasn't sure if they would be funny with me trying to get an slr or a camcorder in. Turns out the only thing they checked for on the gate were glass bottles, so kicked myself really.
Nice photos btw.
