Review: Man From Uranus - Wild Moogimals 7" EP (Strange Light)
Yes another very late review, I'm really getting quite slack with this. I've bought quite a bit of vinyl recently and much of it sat around for weeks before I listened to it. Among the pile I found this little 7", which initially I couldn't remember where it came from. Then I remembered I was supposed to have reviewed it months ago. So here goes…

Wild Moogimals is a brilliant tour into the sonic territory of charity shop electronica without any of the cheese or cliché. All of the Moogs, and theremins, and other 60s once state of the art paraphernalia is here. It’s like finding some forgotten obscurity that somehow hasn’t dated as much it should have.
For me the highlights are the crazy vocals ala UM on Wild Animals – along with brilliant comedy use of meowing, mooing, and ribbiting – Astrological Black’s use of great synth horn stabs that remind me of Radiophonic Workshop Dr Who soundtracks back in the Patrick Troughton days, and Satellite Like to Sun-Ra’s super fats, well funky, Benny Hill does space-porn, Hammond organ workout.
The more abstract tracks are not unlike Jack Dangers' Forbidden Planet Explored project, but with a much-appreciated touch of humour. Great stuff from Strange Light again. Find out more about MFU here.
