MP3 Friday

MP3 Friday has slipped to a pre-dated Saturday posting again as I'm a bit short of suggestions this week. To make up for this, and to appease Alex who couldn't make it to GoatLab last night and had asked me to record my experimental cassette DJ set from the Lab room (which I didn't do at the time) I've recreated it at home this morning. It's pretty much the same as I played last night with just an extra cheeky little bits from the Gusset archive on the end (a couple of industrial tracks Spokesy wrote when he was 11!) The set was great fun btw. I was surprised how many people were dancing by the end of it. I've put a track list and some notes in the comments.

Gusset – GoatLab Experimental Cassette Based DJ Set 29.09.06 [46MB MP3 128kbps]

!?

The main room set went quite well as well. It was the first time I've played the main room in T2. I don't like the lighting in there. From the booth its really difficult to see how many people are there and if they are dancing. I'm told some were at least. I believe the end of the set got recorded. All of the mistakes are near the end so I may or may not upload that once I've got a copy of it.

Thanks to the powers that be for asking me to play, to everyone who watched me, and to all the other artists who all played excellent sets. The next GoatLab will be on 1st December.

Gusset – GoatLab Experimental Cassette Based DJ set 29.09.06 tracklisting and notes:

Gusset – Ho Ho Ho, This is Santa [Answer phone message]
C.W.McCall – Classified
Meat Beat Manifesto – God O.D.
Miles David – The Pan Piper
Firebird Software – Duck! (BBC Micro)
That Dog – Old Timer
Polygon Window – Bike Pump Meets Bucket
Die Kurbis-Kanone von Evelyn Hardey – Jim Salabim, der Zauberer [Charity shop find German spoken word story cassette, check the cover!]
Supultura – Arise
Meat Beat Manifesto – Peristaltic Wave
Gusset – You (1996 demo tape – most people left the room at this point)
The Holy Church of Jazz (Foundation) – unknown track (1996 demo tape) [Includes very dodgy attempt at scratching an extracted loop of tape over the tape head. Psychedelic grove is tuning point in set where everyone suddenly decides to dance!]
M-Beat feat General Levy – Incredible (Radio Edit) [Ironic charity shop buy turns out to be surprise crowd pleaser]
Anan Anwer – [First track from the Wonder Boy album [scan], can't read title to save my life. Another charity shop find that was still in cellophane until I played it last night. Indonesian pop music keeps the crowd moving]
Wool – The Witch [From the soundtrack to Shopping. I think I'm the only person who liked that film, although that was mainly down to the soundtrack anyway.]
Spokesy/Gusset – Crushed/Trampled [plus Zoom effects attack. I actually did that over the other old Gusset track last night. It was shit both times.]
