Faze Action – In The Trees 2007 mixes (Juno)
Boring techno with misplaced classical overlays. The original 1996 mix sounds like an outtake from Welcome To The Pleasure Dome with a Casio Bosanova groove over the top. Why anyone thought this had any remix potential is beyond me. Carl Craig's C2 remix #1 tries to give it a classic Detroit feel but just bores the pants off of me. The three Jerome Sydenham & Tiger Stripes mixes sensibly seem to through away everything but the cello but then forget to add anything else to it except talentlessly slapping a different loop over each. There are three of these remixes (average seven minutes each) and none of them are worth listening to. Everyone involved in this record should be burned for crimes against music.

Mr Hudson & The Library – A Tale of Two Cities (Mercury)
The recent trend for bringing ska influence back into indie-pop pays off rather well in a couple of places here. Something sat in my mail box says, "Mr Hudson has hit upon a winning formula of cross-pollination of hip hop and R&B beats with classic song writing." More accurately this should read, "Mr Hudson has hit upon a quite passable formula (with some dull moments) of cross-pollination classic song writing with appallingly drum machine programming slapped on top."

Shakes – Disneyland (Vladivar)
Good disco influenced groove here with funky guitar and great use of hand claps. Reminiscent of chk chk chk and other Warp bread electronica influenced indie. Worth a listen. In fact, I even like this enough to link to the myspace page.

The Twang – Wide Awake (B-Unique / Polydor)
Listening to this I'd guess that this is a Simple Minds covers band playing a track that was originally an obscure b-side that only the most dedicated and obsessive Minds fan (who thinks all musical development ended with New Gold Dream) would recognise, let alone appreciate. I may be wrong though.
