IMPORTANT GUSSET FLASH!
Nothing happens for ages and then a whole shitstorm of Gusset news arrives, ok well two bits anyway...
Part 1: Gusset has received it's first piece of fan-mail... from Wales (where we've never played).
Part 2: Gusset's track The Imagination Is In The Spelling will be featured on the next Deathsucker Records compilation CD.

How do you think the world will end? Radio 4's today program has an interesting article about it, although it is far less comprehensive than the one in The Sunday Times Magazine a few weeks back. What I liked about the Times one was the fact the top 5 scenarios in their list were all man made technology turning against us! "What does it matter if this particle accelerator ends the universe when we smash these particles together? No one will ever know it was us!" Unless some passing aliens see us about to do this and decide that in the interest of all the other life in the universe Earth should be destroyed! What makes me laugh is that bookies are taking bets on how the world will end! What sort of idiot will ever place a bet on that!!! "Yes, Mr. Bush, you can collect your winnings the day after we have confirmation from the Whitehouse that all life on earth was totally destroyed by Saddam’s secret nuclear program". Oh, the irony.

If you read the piece below about telco monopolies, you should also read this Clay Shirky article for the other side of the argument: "According to Metcalfe's Law, the value of an internet connection rises with the number of users on the network. However, the phone companies do not get to raise their prices in return for that increase in value. This is a matter of considerable frustration to them. The economic logic of the market suggests that capital should be invested by whoever captures the value of the investment. The telephone companies are using that argument to suggest that they should either be given monopoly pricing power over the last mile, or that they should be allowed to vertically integrate content with conduit." So there you go.

OK, its Thursday, which means I blog most of the contents of The Guardian Online. Today, you can read about:
- the US Future Combat System (FCS), and stop and think... “Fuck me, the Terminator films were right!”
- find a whole new load of e-Government services, such as “the official database of residential property prices” I wonder what that bunker is worth?
- John Harper (former managing director of BT's inland operations, and has been an adviser to Commons select committees on broadband) explains why BT should be aloud to be a monopoly again! Hmm.
- All the latest gadgets from the International Consumer Electronics Show (ICES) in Las Vegas
- Apparently hackers are not just nerds, according to this article about social-hacking, or is it just a plug for Kevin Mitnick’s new book, the art of deception.
- Sean, if you still play the Hollywood Stock Exchange, and if you’re any good at it, you might want to read how you could make some real money out of it. Not that I condone gambling – so don’t say I told you to do it.
And some recommended sites: Read the history of electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire, best know for her production of the Dr Who theme. Watch the US national debt clock!

Damn it all! I deliberately separated the actual postage stamp from the stamp with my face on it and put it on the other side of the envelope because some of Emma's friends and family complained that our faces had been spazzed-up by the Royal Mail. Neither my wife-to-be nor myself are disabled (although Emma is a bit clumsy) and neither of us consider ourselves European.

Slim, I got your stunningly fancy Wedding Invite in the post today. We will of course be coming, but in the meantime, I thought you might appreciate seeing how it arrived here... note that the post office have franked yours and Emma's faces rather than the correct (legal) stamp! (If I can steam it off I'll reuse that stamp to return a suitably fancy formal reply for you.) Note also, that not only has this countries excuse for a postal service disfigured the happy young couples faces, but they have done so with the words "European ... Disabled People"! I'd be calling my solicitor if I were you...

The EMP Bomb isnt anything new - the only reason no-one has used one before is that they are amazingly unfussy about what ICs they take out and you tend to get allied aircraft falling out the sky etc. A new threat of "Friendly Fire"!
Where's that Bush quote from Popcorn?
Ah, that sort of Battleship! I had visions of Windows Buckeroo, Windows Big Loada, Windows Operation...

OK, I don't know why someone hasn't built an EMP bomb before. Seems like a bloody obvious idea for a weapon. But the yanks have unvailed the latest weapon that they intend to throw a Mr Hussian (Sadam, not nice Mr. Hussain that runs the local offy)
heh he, "capacitors on board discharge an energy pulse equivalent to 2 billion Watts or more.", hehe
