Sauerkraut
Apparently, "there's zero sauerkraut in England ... It appears to be something of a cultural issue."

Having been brought up on it (not solely, of course) I didn't appreciate how uncommon this was until my teens. My family have always served Sour Cabbage with roasted meals due to our distant Polish heritage, and it's a tradition I'm keen to continue. So, I'm pleased to see a major image re-launch in progress for it.

Brief History:
Originally from 13th century China, Ghenghis Khan fed his men as they plundered Europe and it was quickly adopted in German and Holland. It later became a staple of sea explorers such as Christopher Columbus to ward off scurvy. Americans call it 'Liberty Cabbage' because they're stupid and they won't leave anything alone.
This simple finely-sliced white cabbage fermented with lactobacillus bacteria (a common and usually benign bacteria present in the gastrointestinal tract and the vagina. Isn't Wikipedia great?) is a rich source of vitamin C and has been shown in laboratory studies to curb the growth of cancers, especially in the breast, colon, lung and liver.

"I gotta get me some of that," I hear you say?
Recipes 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Is this good news or bad news? You decide.

This is definitely good news for fans of the X-Men movies.

The first official pictures from Chris Nolan's Batman Begins are available. This page is updated every couple of days with new pitures. Chris Nolan directed Memento and Insomnia so there is a fair chance this won't be anything like the big camp pantomime that was Batman & Robin.
