A Different Kind of War

Music video for Shitmat "A Different Kind of War" (Death$ucker Records / Planet Mu Records) by Oliver Higgs. Check out the rest of his design work. Stunning.

PencilBreak
PencilBreak Book, 200 pages of breakcore inspired graphics from all arround the world, edited by Belio.
Release date: July 20th

"A big mashup of the best art and graphics inspired by and for the digital hardcore subcultures we live and enjoy. This book compiles fresh work from more than twenty international artists. All of them share a similar feeling and passion for distorted sounds and graphics. This book is meant to be an homage to Breakcore and other styles of hardcore music and corresponding attitudes.

"This book doesn't pretend to be the bible of breakcore music [so, don't espect to find everybodies faces here!], it's just a visual approximation to what we think it has been one of most fresh musical scenes during the last years. We like so many different kind of music [not only breakcore, of course], but since an aesthetic and conceptual point of view, we want to focus in this scene, because it means to us [and many others] one of the most inspirative influences in graphic creation, and a perfect mixture and remixture of the best ingredients from the culture we lived during the past decades, from the skate style, passing by the postdigital easthetic, breakcore makes fun and re-invented black metal, trash culture, rave, terror movies, 80's, rock attitudes, videogames, tattoos, errors & mistakes, tv, superheroes... and whatever could be saved in your mind during the time you grew up, all twisted... in a graphic tsunami that defines very well a music genre that is based in the creation of something new using all kind of music styles, where you can't always follow a concret rhythm, to be exact, breakcore's definition is where concret sounds or rhythm are the last thing you gonna find."

UK distro via Toy Life
Strike that. I've checked with Toy Life and although Dave does sell Belio titles in the UK he will not be getting this in. Best to order from Belio direct.

I just wanted to update it for Bristol Breakcore Blog. I'd like to get a series of shots of musicians workspaces as a running feature, so if you have something you'd like to contribute, no matter how minimal or insane, please get in touch.

The Gusset Bashout Lecture:

The Matrix: The Pantomime

Abstract: From folk stories and fairy tales to science-fiction and fantasy, western literature has always used metaphor and simile as devices to put across an idea or philosophic argument removed from the prejudices that may otherwise surround it. This lecture will analyse “The Matrix” series of films from the perspective of a traditional British pantomime to draw parallels between the mediums and demonstrate how this abomination of poor story telling, worse acting, and designed-to-date special effects could be better enjoyed with cross-dressing, smut and audience interaction.
'Where’s Agent Smith?'
'He’s behind you!'

Toxic Dancehall - A Visual Record

RIP Toxic Dancehall. I thought it was about time I put all of my Toxic Dancehall photos online and in one place. Unfortunately I missed Toxic's 2 and 7, and I didn't take a camera to numbers 1 or 8. I got thrown out of number 6 for taking photos by Mel, who owns the Black Swan, who accused me of being a reporter from the Bristol Evening Post. Fuck knows what he thought I was after or what he was hiding.

MP3 Friday
Hola!

Just back from a week in (initially) sunny (and latterly very windy) Spain. The gig over there went really well and Madrid is a great city. It's full of fascinating and exciting places and great food. More information and photos to follow.

Thanks to Dash for filling in in my absence. Although that link of live AFX sets isn't quite everything that's ever been recorded, there was that 3GB torrent last year. I'd link it again but I can’t find it now.

While I get my mind back on things here are some links to be going on with...

Etherhead's Notes on Breakcore documentary is now finished and on sendpace [111MB avi]

VUKZID
Janksy Noise says:
"Running alongside V/Vm Test, Vukzid is a new platform which allows me to make unrestricted audio available for you to download and freely distribute at non-profit.

"The music industry has changed beyond belief over the past few years and we are now at a very exciting stage of development in terms of being able to make high quality audio available online for fast download and free distribution.

"The traditional industry is pushing for paid and restricted downloads which goes against my own feelings and beliefs as it excludes more people than it includes when it comes to downloading and sharing audio files.

"Thanks to the kind people at Brainwashed all of the audio you will find here is free of charge. You can of course help me continue providing more free music by donating money to this project which helps take the financial pressure off me and/or by buying releases from the V/Vm Test shop."
