Spotted
Rights, here's another fashion observation I can't get my head around. Firstly, I saw a girl on the bus last week who was wearing a fashionably distressed denim mini-skirt OVER a pair of jeans. I dismissed this as a freak occurrence until Monday, when I saw someone walking through the centre wearing a pair of mid-thigh blue denim shorts over a pair of black drain-pipe jeans. This should not be allowed.Labels: Fashion, Humour, Spotted

Asymmetric Leggings. Spotted on a woman walking down Cheltenham Road this morning. One to the knee, one mid-calf. Fashion icon? Freak? Accident?Labels: Fashion, Spotted

Overheard
Two of the secretaries from the office walk out of the toilets chatting. One declaring loudly in her broad Bristolian accent, "...and my hips were aching when I went to bed, but it was a really good work out..." as they disappeared into the lift, leaving everyone within ear shot to exchange horrified glances.Labels: Spotted

Overheard
Two teenage girls in Acorn Records in Yeovil, pointing at the Reel Big Fish selection disapprovingly and talking about some acquaintances: "[so and so] went to see them, and they're like, the most random band, ever. And they're really old!" "Oh my god, they've got, like, seven albums!" "Yeah! It's soo random!"Labels: Spotted

Offline
Morning. I am offline at the moment. My PC died last Friday (power surge wrote off the power supply and mother-board and due to age rendered processor and RAM useless) so only have internet access in work, which I obviously try to minimise. Webmail is blocked. Should anyone really want to contact me for some reason, I can still pick up Flickr and Murdockspace messages, but not Facebook. I bought a new PC from yoyotech last night. Thanks to Spoksey for specing that up for me. Normal service will resume soon.
News
From Sunday's Independent: "At present, Britain does not routinely fingerprint airline passengers (see page 3 for the US attitude). But starting two months from tomorrow, several million travellers each year will have their fingerprints, and photograph, taken twice before being allowed aboard a domestic flight." The referenced article about the US attitude is here. I mailed this to a security consultant friend to find out how it came about. Apparently it's down to commercial reasons, so every one gets to access one set of shops. Wooo.
Rambert Dance Company's ‘Britney Breakdown’ (I did some acoustic work for Rambert a couple of years ago. Lovely people.) "Rambert Dance Company's ever-popular Season of New Choreography is an exciting opportunity to see brand new work created by some of Rambert's versatile dancers. The company has a track record of nurturing young choreographers. One of these is Hubert Essakow, who has commissioned a new work from Richard Thomas for Adey to sing live with the dancers. You won't be surprised to know that she gets to sing the word "arse" quite a bit." (You may remember Richard Thomas from sitting behind the piano on TMWRNJ and as the person who provided the music for and co-wrote Jerry Springer the Opera with Stewart Lee.)
Spotted
Filthy, muck-strewn white van on the M5 on whose back door a mischievous passing finger had scrolled, "Cleaned by the NHS."
Busses
Chatting to "That'll be the Day: The Musical: The Fleece woman" on the bus stop yesterday morning. Tells me about her job then asks what I do. I say I work for an engineering practice in the centre. "Is that an admin role?" she asks. What!? Look at me. Glasses. Beard. Carrying laptop bag. I'm an engineer you cheeky cow.
I sat on the bus today, reading The God Delusion, next to someone reading the Bible. Book II of Psalms to be precise. What a wonderfully secular society we live in.Labels: Art, Literature, News, Personal, Secuirty, Spotted, Travel

Busy
Busy week, made a new mix, worked from home for a day to wait for a boiler engineer to come round, suck his teeth, and say, "nowt to do with us mate, you'll have to go back to the insurance people, they don't know who to send out see, they aren't technical at the office like," recorded a radio show and played said mix, et cetera.
Spotted
Tractor driving through rush hour traffic in Bristol city centre, 9am Monday morning. Wasn't quick enough with the camera. Not that the trater was too fast of course but a bus got in the way.
Psychoacoustic Maps of Milton Keynes
Found on an old Bldg Blog post. Timon Botez says, "Psychoacoustic Maps of Milton Keynes explore ways of translating visual compositions into sound environments. The psychoacoustic maps are not functional, but they use the geometrical forms of the original city map as a basis for artistic expression." The links in the post are dead, the site has moved to here and you can find all of the text, images, audio and movies referenced there. Well worth a listen if you are interested in generative composition. I'm enjoying FridayEvening.mp3 right now [9min 12MB] very otherworldly, makes Milton Keynes sound even more desolate than Bill Bryson did, which is quite a feat.Labels: Electronic Music, Maps, Spotted

Spotted
Urban Adventurer
Guy on number 71 bus to the city centre, 8am, Friday morning, wearing walking boots, khaki trousers, khaki shirt, khaki jacket, khaki sunhat, shaded glasses, and a grey beard.
Parole Whore
6pm, whore on Turbo Corner, Stokes Croft, wearing scraggy hair, tiny crop top, tiny skirt, flip flops, and a plainly visible bail tag on her ankle. The tag was quite possibility the largest single item and undoubtedly weighed more than everything else combined. She was there again the next day but with a pink blouse and pink stilettos, tag still plainly visible. You’d think it would affect business. I wonder if she has any good statistical data on the effects?Labels: Humour, Spotted

Spotted
Trendy young (18, 19ish?) girl at a bus stop in the centre, bobbed hair, smoking a roll-up, and wearing battered baseball boots, slightly flared jeans, Kyser Chiefs lovin' fitted pin-striped jacket, giant shades, and a torn Carter USM "30 Something" T-shirt. Looks like Carter are officially retro now, and have reformed just in time to cash in.Labels: Carter, Spotted

There's a Chinese girl swanning around the office eating a cucumber. A whole one. Why would you do that?Labels: Humour, Spotted
